A Clear Mind
Here's a simple exercise for getting rid of the clutter of thoughts in your head – when family problems, or money problems, or that exciting new idea are getting in the way of thinking about anything else. If you practice this enough, pretty soon you'll be able to do it anytime, in an instant. Instant Empty Mind! Marvellous.
-
Close your eyes and see a computer screen in front of you (I'm a PC girl, so Mac-users will need to convert!).
There are a whole mass of open Windows. Behind all of them is the Desktop. The uppermost Window represents what you're thinking so much about – perhaps it has a face on it, or perhaps you just know anyway.
You probably have your nose almost touching it, because it's all you can see.
-
Now, reach up to the Close button, and click it. Watch the Window close and shoot off to the bottom left.
Now see what the next Window is – another set of thoughts in your mind. Close it like the first.
-
Close every Window on the screen until you have nothing but the Desktop.
Feel how blank your mind now is.
-
What would you like to put there instead? It's up to you. Maybe the thing you're supposed to be thinking about. Then again, maybe not...
